Parents/Guardians of RVMS students: Thank you for picking up schedules and meeting teachers last week. It was awesome to see everyone back and ready to go for a new school year! This will be a wonderful year full of learning and fun, not to mention, an incredible year of change. You will be amazed as you watch your child bloom as a friend, reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, thinker, and so much more! I look forward to working with you and your child this year. I am excited by the anticipation of the countless milestones we will reach as a school and those that your child will reach as an individual. I wanted to take a minute to share a few things about the first day of school and some overall operations that we appreciate your support on. I have attached our bell schedule. Our regular day starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m. Our horseshoe parking lot in the front gets really busy. Please feel free to drop off at the curb on the street instead of braving the traffic through there. We have staff members every morning at the front of the school starting at 7:00 a.m. and can help point your children in the right direction or answer questions as needed. Our 5th graders will assemble in the courtyard area to the right of the gym daily until the bell rings. 6th through 8th graders will be in front of the school and on the playground area until the bell rings. If your 5th grader rides the bus, we will have an adult aide waiting for them to escort them to the courtyard. If your 6th-8th grader rides the bus, they will walk to the recess area or the front of the school where the other students will be. If your student walks home after school, they will be asked to leave out of the front of the building. The back of the building is for the bus riders only. We are trying to make the traffic flow a little less jammed where the buses are. We ask that you do not park in the bus loading zone behind the school to drop off or pick up your students. We would like to keep that area free for the buses. 5th graders will generally enter the school from the courtyard area and go to their homeroom. On the first day though, they will be escorted by a teacher through our first day celebration at the school entrance. They will be followed by the other grade levels entering the school. Our teachers will be lined up cheering for the students as they enter on the first day. We are so excited to see them! For student safety, we are a closed campus. Once students arrive on our campus they are not allowed to leave school grounds unless they are signed out by someone on their emergency contact list and over the age of 18. For example, they cannot ride the bus or be dropped off at school and go to Short Stop or Circle K. Those things need to be done before they get to campus. For lunches, only immediate family members are allowed to drop off lunch to the front office. If you have any questions about this, please let me know. We ask that cell phones stay off and in bags throughout the school day if they choose to bring them to school. If you need to get a message to your child, we would be happy to do that for you. Call the office at 333-6700. This will be a great year! Save the date for a parent meeting on Monday, August 28th. More details will be sent soon for all grade levels. Please let me know any concerns or questions you have. I have attached the tentative fall sport schedules and the bell schedule below. We are working on our choir and band schedule and will get that out soon as well. We are looking forward to working with you and your child to make it the best year it can be! We are RVMS and proud to show our Elk Pride! Thank you! Lisa Muth Principal Round Valley Middle School 928-333-6700 extension 6701 Mobile # (928)245-3921 Go Elks!!! Hello Parents and Students! Thank you for taking time to look through a great opportunity for summer reading! Why Read? Our summer reading program is designed to help our entering 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students understand that reading is an enjoyable pastime and that we read for pleasure as well as to acquire information. It is not a secret that reading skills improve with practice! Making time in the day or night to read is good for the mind and it is a wonderful way to reduce the noise, stress and stimulation often associated with busy lives in our fast paced world. It is well known that reading is essential to providing a solid basis for academic achievement. But most of all, reading is fun! Round Valley Middle School Summer Reading Program: 1. How many books will you read over the summer? It will be different for everyone. 2. The goal is to read a MINIMUM of 4 books. Your personal reading goal may be higher and that’s awesome! Record each book you read on the Summer Reading Log to help you keep track of what you read. Please complete a separate form for every book you read. The Reading Log is attached. Also, we are asking for you to send us pictures of your child with the book(s) they are reading. You can send to Lmuth@elks.net or post to our facebook with #RVMSreads. We will use these in our summer celebration and also post to our website to highlight our students who are reading. 3. Students can read what they want! Free choice is an important component of this program. Students are encouraged to read at their appropriate reading level. Not sure? Talk with your parents to see if a particular book is a good fit for you. Fiction and non-fiction books, graphic novels, ebooks, collections of short stories– all of these are fine! Read what you like! 4. SUMMER READING CELEBRATION AND PRIZES A celebration at The Lodge will be held for all students who submit at least 4 Summer Reading Logs. Prizes will be given for our top readers and we will celebrate YOU as a reader! Happy Summer Reading! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-Fr7Q-KwQVzaXwmh40QsdEL1X78Uffz0e744q4ieVbY/edit?usp=drive_web
