Story of the Opera
Margarita de Montero, the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner, has just returned from a finishing school in Madird, jsut at fiesta time in Barcelona, or the day when they have the big bull fights there. Here she meets many of her old friends.
Some years before, Margarita met Lieutenant Wright while she was touring the United States with her parents. It was "love at first sight," but soon she had to leave for Spain.
At this great time Lieutenant Wright goes to Barcelona as custom inspector, and, on the day of Margarita's return, as he is walking down the Plaza, he finds a mantilla, and attached to it a silver pin. He at once recognizes it as his present to her in Washington.
They meet when Margarita returns looking for her mantilla, and the old romance is resumed. He learns that she is engaged to a Spanish mobleman, through her parents' scheming. Mr. Wright attempts to break the engagement, with the help of friends, but is opposed by her parents and the nobleman.
Lieutenant Wright suspects the nobleman, who is chief inspector for the Spanish Government. He begins an investigation that leads to surprising discoveries.
In the end, the true character of teh nobleman is revealed, and his pleadings for mercy are granted after they promise to release her from the old enganement. All ends well, with wedding bells proclaiming the engagement of Margarita to Lieutenant Wright.
