New Enrollments to our District will also need to provide their student’s certified birth certificate, immunizations, and proof of guardianship if applicable.

Open House/Orientation

Each grade level will hold an Open House/Orientation on August 8, 2017. Parents will be able to choose which session they would like to attend for their student’s grade level.

Welcome to 5th grade!  We have an exciting year of learning planned for our students!  Fifth grade has very high expectations.  We will guide you and provide you with strategies and organizational skills to help you be successful.
All students must register for the new school year. Registration/Enrollment will be held at the Middle School on August 1, 2017. Registration will be held throughout the day. Please come during your designated time if at all possible. We ask that you come prepared with your proof of residency (driver’s license with physical address listed or utility bill are most common) and any current legal documents that affect your student. There will be an Open House/Orientation held on August 8, 2017. This is when you will meet the teacher and hear from each grade level on expectations for your student during the school year. School starts Monday, August 14, 2017 at 7:25 a.m.

Attached is the list of supplies needed in order for your student to be prepared for the upcoming year.   Please see the daily schedule below.  The school day runs from 7:25 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

“Must Have” Items for daily use by the student:
--A binder (to help keep track of assignments)
--1 package lined notebook paper
(Please periodically restock this throughout the year)

--1 package (5-6) Divider pages (with the plastic colored identifier)
--1 Plastic Folder, 3 hole punched with 2 pockets
(These will be used to bring written communication to and from school)

       Round Valley Middle School will be giving a Power Point Presentation per grade level during the back to school orientation.  It is vital that parents and students attend one of the two sixth grade sessions.  The information will be useful and will lessen the tension that incoming sixth graders often feel.  After the presentation, the sixth graders will meet their homeroom teacher, tour the school, and get their locker and combination so that they can practice. Students will receive their schedules at this time.

First Day of School for students is Monday, August 14th
The first bell rings at 7:25—school begins at 7:30.

7th Grade

Dear Parents:

                The seventh grade team would like to welcome you and your seventh grader to the 2017-2018 school year at Round Valley Middle School.  We are excited to begin and look forward to a successful year. 

The seventh grade team consists of the following teachers:
Guy Phelps: Math; Becky Hart: Science; Kathleen Scott-Rugg: Reading & English; James Sherwood: Social
Studies; Barbara Schertz: Special Needs; Carl Turley: Title 1

                Organization is the key to student success as well as completing assignments and turning work in on time.  Please make sure to get your student’s ID and password to check grades often on Family Link.  Teachers will be sending out a group monthly email to parents to keep everyone informed about what is happening in seventh grade as well as putting information on our Facebook page.  Feel free to contact us with any questions.
We encourage students to use their lockers to store their backpacks during the school day.  Backpacks are a safety hazard when they are on the floor or hung on the backs of chairs; therefore, lightweight string packs are preferred in the classroom.

                Your child will need the following school supplies:

DRESS CODE
The Board recognizes that each student’s mode of dress and grooming is a manifestation of personal style and individual preference.  The Board will not interfere with the right of students and their parents to make decisions regarding their appearance except when their choices affect the educational program of the schools or the health and safety of others.  The Board authorizes the Superintendent to develop and enforce school regulations prohibiting student dress or grooming practices that:

  1. Present a hazard to the health or safety of the student or to others in the school.
  2. Materially interfere with schoolwork, create disorder, or disrupt the educational program.
  3. Cause excessive wear or damage to school property.
  4. Prevent students from achieving their educational objectives
  5. Represent membership in a gang.

Obscene language or symbols, or symbols of sex, drugs, or alcohol on clothing are expressly prohibited. 

Student Dress Code Board Regulation:
The District encourages students to take pride in their attire as it relates to the school setting.  Students should dress in a manner that, in addition to the following guidelines, takes into consideration the educational environment, safety, health, and welfare of self and others.  Administration reserves the right to decide if a student’s attire is inappropriate or distracting.

  1. Only tailored shorts and skirts that are hemmed may be worn in grades kindergarten through twelve (see below).
  2. Bare midriffs, halter-tops, and spaghetti straps are not acceptable.

•Clothing, such as tank tops, sheer blouses, mesh shirts, tube tops, halter-tops, bare midriffs, crop tops, and sleeveless garments are prohibited. (Normal clothing fit or movement of the body should not cause clothing to expose breasts, abdomen, buttocks or the groin area).
 • Pajamas, lounge pants, slippers, house shoes, or flip-flops are not appropriate school dress.
• “Sagging” pants are prohibited.  The waistline of the pant is to be worn on the person’s waist, not below.  The crotch must fit properly; the pant must fit without a belt.  If a belt is worn it is to be secured in the pant belt loops. 
•  Long shirts worn over sagging pants will be required to be tucked in.
• Shorts or skirts must reach at least mid-thigh or below in length (NOT FINGERTIP in length). 
• Cutoffs, spandex, and other tight fitting clothing are prohibited as outside garments. 
• Holes or slits in clothing are prohibited.
• Low cut blouses exposing breasts are not allowed.

C. Bare feet are never acceptable.  In the interests of student safety, shoes must be worn at all times.  Closed shoes are
  1. to be worn for any type of physical activity, such as physical education, et cetera.
  2. Jewelry shall not be worn if it presents a safety hazard to self and/or others.
  3. Profane or defamatory writing on clothing or jewelry is not acceptable.
  4. No bandannas of any color, size, or shape may be carried or displayed in any classroom or at any school activity.  This also includes simulations of anything representing “colors”.
  5. No hats may be worn in a classroom, except for properly approved occupational safety headgear required for special classes.
  6. Gang related personalization is not permitted on hats, on items of clothing, or on one’s person.
    1. No chains are to be displayed or be in possession of.  No safety pins are to be worn.
  7. Obscene language or symbols, or symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol on clothing are expressly prohibited.
    1. Includes jewelry, painted fingernails, tattoo marks.

J.    Body piercing is not allowed. 
The administrator may preapprove exceptions for special activities or health considerations
(such as a student being required to wear prescription dark glasses).  Students who volunteer for extracurricular activities, such as athletics, band, chorus, et cetera, are subject to the standards of dress as defined by the sponsors of such activities.

We welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year!  We are sending this information to help you get ready for the coming school year.  We hope you have a wonderful and restful summer. See you in August.

We are looking forward to an exciting year with  a lot of learning, achievements  and adventures. The s'" grade year is one of challenges and amazing growth for students.  We are readying these young adults for their  transition to the high school by encouraging and challenging them to become a more independent young adults.

The s'" grade staff for the 2017-2018 school year consists of Mrs. Morgan (Language Arts),Mr. Tucker (Math), Mr. Cochran (Science) Ms. Schertz (Special Services),and Mr. Sherwood (Civics/Social Studies).

To help you get your student  off to a strong start, you will find a suggested supply list to help you with your summer school shopping.  Please keep in mind the school dress code and supply list as you go shopping over the summer.
