History Of The Graduation Class

In the year 1950, the world was shocked and terrified by the news of the Korean War.  And also the new and lowly freshmen were shocked and terrified at the thought of entering high school.  This year was our introduction to high school life.  First was our initiation.  The boys had to dress as girls and the girls as boys.  Then we were requested to whitewash the R. V.  Filially we all had to perform in an assembly before the entire student body.  One of the great events of this year was the burning down of the school wood pile.  Quite a fire.

1951 saw the great Escadilla forest fire. Also there were many smaller fires burning.  These fires were in the hearts of the students who had been promoted to sophomores.  The first opportunity we had to show our power was to initiate the new freshmen.  This year there was a large turn out of athletes from our class.  Although we didn't win many games we had many good times.

Great changes took place in 1952.  We saw Mr. Eisenhower take over the highest office in the land.  Also there was a change in our high school.  David Rogers was elected as President of the Junior class. The high light of this year was the tie with St. Johns in the last football game of the season.  As Juniors, we put on the Junior Prom and participated in the Junior-Senior banquet.  this close association with the high and mighty Seniors inflated  our ego.

A Marvelous polio serum was discovered in the year 1953.  But no serum had been discovered to stop the Seniors.  This year we worked hard for money to take our senior trip to Long Beach at the end of the year.  We also took a Senior field trip to the University of Arizona.  We had a better team this year.  Donald Parish made All-Northern center.  David Rogers and Tommy Finch made football honorable mention.  Our class was quite large at the beginning but from 45 it was reduced to 32.

Those of us who lasted, beaten and bloody, but still with great spirit at last, reached out for the vaunted prize---our Diplomas.  So, with bitter sweet memories, we say farewell to Round Valley High.  It is our hope that h\those who follow us will also know the happiness, excitement and good times we experienced.  To our dear old Alma Mater and its host of memories we say, Farewell.....Farewell.......
