BAND

Band began with only seven experienced members.  Seventeen new members have been added to the organization during the year, making twenty-four in all who practice every day with vim and enthusiasm of experienced players.

They furnished several selections for the teachers institute held at the R. V. H. S.  Our football and basketball games have all been made better by their spirited music.  The boys would fight harder for victory when the band would start playing our R. V. Battle Hymn or An R. V. Man.

I suppose the greatest credit coming to the band, and it is a credit, is that they could make the Freshmen realize that they were alive.

High class music has also been established in their course.  Everyone who attended the first concert which was given this year can tell what they are doing because of the talent which was shown.  The crowd was very well pleased as was shown in the enthusiastic manner in which it was received.

ORCHESTRA

The Orchestra, with one or two exceptions composed of inexperienced Freshmen, has improved almost beyond belief.  Playing beginners music at first but working up to the more difficult pieces at the close of the season.

they also feel quite well repaid for their efforts when practicing, which they do every evening from three-fifteen until four, some of the lower classmen drop in, seat themselves to listen.  You should see the members who are playing straighten up and play.  One would think they were  performing for the president of the United States which indicates that they really enjoy playing.
